Rethinking Fashion During Isolation
A warm hello to everybody who will be reading this during quarantine and feeling lonely. In times like this, we find that we as a society feel closer and more open-minded than before we had forbidden to give each other hugs. I found on day 15 of isolation that my routine could not be the same as I used to do with my past self. So I started doing things that I kept putting off for lack of time. Try catching up with your must-read books, struggle with a new yoga pose, or do like me and start learning Japanese.

Besides these challenges that I am taking personally to achieve, I think that what we all should do is evaluate. Evaluate your life now that you have the time to look it through different lens, what should you change, what should society change? A lot of people and fields have realized that we were overboard with content, with new things, with wanting constant changing and wanting more and more, without realizing that the glass was starting to spill from too much water.

A field that is re-imagining how it will evolve is fashion. Now that so many advertising and trend forecasting agencies are putting their knowledge at the service of anyone willing to listen (such as Geraldine Wharry, or podcasts from Business of Fashion or Fashion Snoop), and I'm part of the audience who has their ear ready to learn. I can see a lot of professional minds opening up about how it all needs a change.
A lot has been talked about a new way of seeing sustainability. Far from reusable or vegan materials, a new Marie Condo wave has shaken those who have gone through their stuff and realized how many unnecessary things they buy. It is predicted that the new consumer that will surface from the COVID-19 will have a mind-set more focused on buying more locally and in a less for a senseless whim.

We need to keep this mind-set, remember the consequences of over consumerism, remember when we promised ourselves to give back to the community. Society needs to evolve, and it is a job that falls into everybody's hands.
Take care, stay safe, and "elbow-salute" to all of you.
